Transitioning Officers - Seth Revoal, Gamma Rho Chapter Advisor

Officer transitioning is often a passive activity that begins after elections and makes the best of a less than desirable situation. Chapters who approach it this way are behind the 8-ball from day one. There are steps a leadership team can take months in advance to insure a smooth and successful transition

Phase 1 - 10 weeks prior to elections.

Identify candidates-Advisors and executive members should identify future chapter leaders early in their academic careers and begin grooming them for leadership through minor and assistant positions. These people often find their way on their own. Conduct a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats). Using your pool of potential candidates, the outgoing executive should generate a list of several good candidates for each position that addresses the SWOT analysis conclusions. Members of the executive team then discreetly build relationships with their potential successors and get them to begin considering chapter leadership.

Where is your Road taking you?

The RoadChapters that are utilizing and seeing progress with The Road have all made a decision to select a Road chairman or designate an officer responsible. Does your chapter have a member who is responsible for initiating brother education? If not, that is the first step to implementing The Road. This is the best time of year to discuss this need with your officers. They can utilize the member education chair or create a new Road chairman. There are resources on the Delta Tau Delta website that will train the student. We even have a sample job description for the Road chairman in the Implementation Manual.

2011 Division Conferences - Accountability is Fundamental

Encourage brothers to attend the 2011 Division Conference!

The mission of Delta Tau Delta is Committed to Lives of Excellence. Our core values include the statement, "Accountability is Fundamental to All Commitments." This also serves as the theme for the 2011 Division Conferences. What does "Accountability is Fundamental to All Commitments" mean?  Accountability means holding yourself responsible for your words and actions, and also holding others responsible for theirs. Accountability binds us together as a group; it helps us be able to depend on one another.

What can you, as an alumni volunteer do to help encourage undergraduates, local alumni and volunteers to attend the 2011 Division Conference?

  • Highlight the exceptional Leadership Speakers that each conference will feature.
  • Encourage participation in educational sessions for undergraduate leaders and up-and-coming undergraduates
  • Emphasize the impact The Road curriculum will provide to undergraduates in helping to build life skills
  • Stress the networking opportunities presented to alumni in the area
  • Promote the opportunity to experience a truly unique brotherhood event to undergraduates and alumni alike

The 2011 Division Conferences guarantee to provide educational and inspirational opportunities across the board, so please sign up today!

VM: What chapter do you advise?

CE: I advise Zeta Tau at University of North Carolina-Wilmington.

VM: How long have you been advising?

CE: This is my second year working with the men of Zeta Tau.

VM: What is the most rewarding part?

CE: I do not know about "the most rewarding part." Maybe the rewards come later. I can say, however, that I am gratified from weekly chapter meeting to meeting witnessing (from the trenches) OUR values come to life. All of our men nationwide have so much on their plates. Yet, they devote much of their time and talent to maintaining their fraternal obligation as a top priority.

December Vital Tasks for Advisors

Meet With the Ritual Team

Truth, Courage, Faith, and Power Are Our Foundation

  • Who is in charge of planning for the conclusion of the pledgeship period? Review those plans to ensure they are within the integrity of the Member Responsibilities Guidelines and the Ritual.
  • What is the condition of our Ritual equipment? Are improvements necessary prior to the ceremony?
  • Where is the initiation for the fall pledge class going to be, at what time, and on what date?
  • Will the Ritual be practiced to ensure performance quality?
  • Will we invite any alumni? Are any members of the pledge class Delt legacies? Those alumni should be contacted and invited to attend well in advance.
  • How will we ensure all dues and paper work is sent to the Central Office within 48 hours? The chapter advisor must review each prospective initiate's academic eligibility and sign the initiation card.

END OF THE SEMESTER/WINTER BREAK: Make sure the Shelter is secured for the school break and all house management issues are addressed.
