Improve That
Shelter! |
Have you considered shelter
improvements? What shelter work needs to be done next summer?
Do you need funding to accomplish these projects?
Most of our house
corporations are aware that Delta Tau Delta provides mortgage
loans to house corporations for acquiring, building or
renovating their shelters. These loan programs, titled the
Loyalty and Centennial Development funds, are endowment funds
of the Fraternity.
House corporations
have borrowed amounts ranging from $34,000 to $450,000 for a
variety of shelter renovation and construction projects.
What could this
loan program do for your shelter? Here are a few
ideas.

Winter
Weather
Update |
From our insurance
carrier, Willis North America -
"Winter weather not only brings freezing
temperatures with it, but all the frozen goodies that cause
havoc for properties and businesses, such as wind, hail, ice,
freezing rain and of course snow! Severe winter weather
threatens most of the country at some point, and can result in
property damage and business interruption. "

Electrical
Safety |
Reprinted with permission from Campus
Fire Safety.

Electrical safety goes hand in hand with fire
safety as electrical problems can often lead to fire. The
overloading of electrical outlets and use of extension cords
should be avoided. If the shelter can't handle the current
electrical needs of the residents then the house corporation
should explore expanded electrical capacity. Overloading an
electrical system built before the advent of all the
electrical equipment brought to school by students is unwise
and dangerous. Space heaters should also be avoided as these
devices can be unsafe and fire hazards in close living
environments, like Greek housing.
