Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity  |  December 2010 |  Volume 10, Issue 3
From the desk of the Executive Vice President

Russell

Season greetings and best wishes from the Central Office staff. For those students immersed in the final days of the fall term, good luck. We trust your preparation and diligence throughout the fall will pay off now.

Here's what we're trying to match or better as an organization: During the spring 2010 semester, 19 Delt chapters or colonies ranked No. 1 academically on their campus and 46 groups ranked among the top three at their school. Our overall fraternity GPA topped 3.0 for the first time. Academics have always been important to Delts and that's certainly true today as you prepare for a very competitive world. Life-long learning is a Delt value we take seriously.

My hope for students and alumni volunteers alike is you will use the coming days to spend with family and friends while recharging your batteries. It's a long haul from August to December. And as the holidays wane, those few days before the start of new classes are ideal to gather new executive committees together for chapter goal-setting and just the opportunity to know each other better.

Merry Christmas to all.

2011 Division Conferences - Accountabilty is Fundamental

2011Division Conference Logo

Encourage brothers to attend the 2011 Division Conference!

The mission of Delta Tau Delta is Committed to Lives of Excellence. Our core values include the statement, "Accountability is Fundamental to All Commitments." This also serves as the theme for the 2011 Division Conferences. What does "Accountability is Fundamental to All Commitments" mean?  Accountability means holding yourself responsible for your words and actions, and also holding others responsible for theirs. Accountability binds us together as a group; it helps us be able to depend on one another.

  • Highlight the exceptional Leadership Speakers that each conference will feature.
  • Encourage participation in educational sessions for undergraduate leaders and up-and-coming undergraduates

New opportunity for student leaders at Division Conferences

Chapter members who are preparing to graduate or have transitioned from their leadership position are encouraged to attend the 2011 Division Conference. A Leadership Masters Track (LMT) will be offered at the Eastern, Northern, Western Pacific and Western Plains Division Conferences. The LMT focuses on bridging the fraternity experience with future professional careers. It is a capstone experience for men who have served in any leadership position within Delta Tau Delta. Students will participate in the track, as well as other aspects of the conference. Learn more about this new opportunity at http://www.delts.org/divisionconferences/masterstrack.html.

Fraternity launches new partnership

Have you ever wondered what impact Delta Tau Delta has on your members?

Our belief is we have made a difference in our member's lives, but can we prove it?

Beginning this spring we will launch a project to determine the Fraternity impact on individual members. In partnership with Indiana State University's Bayh School of Education, Delta Tau Delta will survey all undergraduate members. Delivered via e-mail the students will be asked to reflect on seven areas including communication, membership & leadership, and relationships. The assessment results will be used to enhance and create new experiences for undergraduate members.

More information will be provided in January and in future AOPs.

Fall 2010 Chaper Reports now online

Important meningitis prevention tips

In light of the recent death of Doug Miller, a Delta Phi Chapter junior at Florida State University, Delta Tau Delta would like to educate our brothers about the risks of meningitis. Please take a few moments to read about the illness and learn ways to prevent the spread of it.

Meningitis is the inflammation of the meninges (lining of the brain and spinal cord). Most cases are either viral or bacterial. Meningitis can affect persons of any age. Thanks to childhood immunizations, the peak incidence has shifted to adults since the 1990s. College students are at increased risk for contracting meningitis due to their increased exposure in close living quarters.
