Alan BrackettAlan Brackett was elected the 50th president of Delta Tau Delta at the Capital Karnea in 2010. His Arch Chapter service began in 1999, when he was elected Southern Division president. He continued in that role until 2002, when he was elected secretary of the Fraternity at the 2002 Los Angeles Karnea. He was elected second vice president at the 2004 Denver Karnea and re-elected at the 2006 Indianapolis Karnea, then elected vice president at the Sesquicentennial Karnea in 2008. He earned his B.A. degree in history from Tulane University in 1982 and a J.D. from Tulane Law School in 1984. He is the managing member of a New Orleans law firm where he practices in the fields of admiralty and maritime law, and federal workers' compensation law. He has chaired a national maritime law program for the Loyola University School of Law for more than 10 years, and served on the board and as general counsel of a maritime industry trade group in New Orleans for 15 years. He has been named one of New Orleans’ “Top 50 Lawyers” and has been named a Louisiana “SuperLawyer” for the past three years. He is an assistant bar examiner for the State of Louisiana and is a fellow in the Louisiana Bar Foundation, for which he chairs the New Orleans Community Partnership Panel. Alan is involved numerous civic, cultural, and professional organizations. He is the immediate past chairman of the board of trustees of St. Martin's Episcopal School, and previously served on the executive committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana. Currently, he is a Verger for and serves on the Finance and Investment Committee of Christ Church Cathedral in New Orleans, and is the presiding judge of the Ecclesiastical Court for the Diocese. He also leads a Mardi Gras organization. As an undergraduate, he served Beta Xi Chapter as recording secretary, second vice president, and first vice president. Following graduation, he served as an assistant advisor and then as chapter advisor for Beta Xi Chapter. He has been a member of Beta Xi's house corporation for more than 20 years and served as a Southern Division vice president prior to his election to the Arch Chapter. Brackett resides in New Orleans, Louisiana, with his wife, Linda, and their son, Austin. |
