Who can apply to the Leadership Academy?

The only criteria to apply for the Leadership Academy is that you have not previously attended one of Delta Tau Delta's Leadership Academies and that you will be returning to your chapter for at least one additional semester/quarter as an undergraduate student.

Who typically attends the Leadership Academy?

Typically the majority of attendees are students who have just completed their sophomore or junior year.   However, each year a number of students who just completed their freshman year or their senior year (and are returning for a fifth year) are accepted to the Leadership Academy.

Do I have to be an officer to be accepted to the Leadership Academy?

Not necessarily. The application is comprised of many different aspects, and officer positions are only one portion of the application. Each year we have some men at the Leadership Academy who currently do not hold a chapter or campus office, so this should not discourage anyone from applying.

What are the costs for attending the Leadership Academy?

Each Leadership Academy has a non-refundable registration fee, used to reserve your space.   If accepted to the Leadership Academy, the amount of your registration fee will depend on which Leadership Academy you were accepted to attend.   The registration fees are $100 for Bethany, $200 for Capital and $250 for Sailing. HOWEVER, after your registration fee is paid, all expenses for your Leadership Academy experience will be paid for you.   The Fraternity will pay for and arrange your transportation to the Leadership Academy and all food, lodging, and program expenses will be taken care of. If you are having difficulty finding money for your registration fee, you might consider speaking with your campus' Greek advisor or leadership office or your chapter's House Corporation. Some past academy graduates have found assistance from these groups.

Is there a fee for applying to the Leadership Academy?

There is no fee to apply to the Leadership Academy. If your application is accepted and you are invited to attend a Leadership Academy, you will be required to pay the associated registration fee to reserve your space at the Leadership Academy.

If I applied to the Leadership Academy last year but was not accepted, can I apply again this year?

ABSOLUTELY.   We have many applicants each year, but unfortunately there are not enough spaces for everyone to attend.   If your application was not selected previously, but you would still like to attend, you should definitely apply again in 2008.   There are many Leadership Academy alumni who applied two or more times before their application was accepted, so just because you might not have been accepted previously does not mean that your application will not be accepted in 2008.   In fact, you probably have more insight and experience this year and that may help you in your application in 2008.

Can more than one person from my chapter apply to the Leadership Academy?

Definitely.   The Leadership Academy is a personal experience and any Delt who is interested in improving himself should apply.   There is no set limit to the number of Delts from a single chapter who can apply to the Leadership Academy.

Who decides who will attend the Leadership Academy?

All applications are anonymously graded by a panel of alumni volunteers who score the applications by a variety of criteria.   The results of their scoring process determine who will attend the Leadership Academy.

Can I apply to more than one Leadership Academy experience?

There is one application for all of the Leadership Academy experiences.   When you fill out the application, you are asked to rank each of the academies in the order of your preference.   If you are accepted to the Leadership Academy, your choice of preferences will help to place you in one of the three various Leadership Academy experiences. However, once you have attended one of the academies, you are no longer eligible to attend future Leadership Academies.
