Hugh Shields and Court of Honor Awards for Chapter Excellence

Hugh Shields Award

The Hugh Shields Award is the most prestigious award bestowed upon a Delt chapter. Named for Hugh Shields, Beta Alpha 1926, the first executive vice president of the Fraternity, the award is given annually to the top 10 chapters in the Fraternity and is awarded with the purple and gold Hugh Shields Flag. The flag looks similar to the flag of Delta Tau Delta, but also has the greek word protimoi (pronounced pro-ti-moi) in the upper-left corner. The word means "first among equals." Chapters who earn the Hugh Shields Award do so because of their outstanding accomplishments in all areas of chapter programming and operations. Chapters who are awarded five Hugh Shields Awards are given a permanent flag, which they may retire in their chapter house.

Court of Honor

The Court of Honor is also a prestigious honor. The Court of Honor is given annually to the top 20 chapters in the Fraternity and is also awarded to chapters based on their programming and operations. All chapters who receive a Hugh Shields Award are also awarded in the Court of Honor, but not all chapters who are in the Court of Honor will achieve a Hugh Shields Award.
