Recruitment/Member Education

Without consistent and positive growth the Fraternity would never have grown to its current size. Recruitment is the lifeblood of the Fraternity, and in order to forward the mission of “Committed to Lives of Excellence” you must seek out other worthy men who possess the ideal qualities of a Delt. Academics is one of these qualities. The Beta Chapter at Ohio University provides a three-step plan to deal with academics and recruitment/member education.

Each chapter should sit down before recruitment begins to discuss the minimal academic standards for accepting pledges, as well as familiarize themselves with the IFC policy on campus. It is possible to accept a pledge who is below this standard the chapter sets, but be aware that it then becomes the chapter’s duty to push him to his full potential. The, however, is only the first stop in the process.

Phase two begins during the pledge process. The DAA in cooperation with the Pledge Educator should work on the pledges’ academics. Most chapters set a minimum activation GPA, require study table hours to be completed (see programming for implementation ideas) and an internal mentoring/tutoring program. During the pledge process, academics should be a main focus along with member education. The future brothers are attending school to get an education first.

The third phase is member education. The DAA position’s main focus is the academics of the chapter. Beta Chapter looks into programs that will benefit all brothers (see programming section for program ideas). They also look into programs that will benefit brothers with lower GPAs. These programs are implemented not to call out brothers, but to aid in their academic improvement. These programs are used until the brother improves his academic standing.
