HEATING COSTS TO RISE

Are you prepared?

The average cost to heat a home with natural gas is forecasted to increase by about 50 percent this winter. Are you prepared? Have you budgeted for this increase? Plan now or face sticker shock later.

As gas prices continue to increase, our chapters and house corporations will see the cost of heating oil, propane and probably electricity also increase. You are strongly encouraged to practice energy saving techniques such as keeping thermostats locked at a constant temperature and making sure windows are caulked and sealed.

Likewise, be sure you or the chapter has adequately budgeted for increased energy costs. The time to review the utilities budget is not when you receive the bill. Visit the websites to the left for a variety of energy saving techniques and information.

The bottom line:

  1. Adequately budget for the increase in energy costs.
  2. Practice energy saving strategies and tips.
  3. Monitor cashflow and adjust revenue, if possible, to make sure fixed costs can be met.
