Beta Chapters

BETA ALPHA
Indiana University

The men of Beta Alpha made numerous changes during the spring semester. Switching leadership positions from academic year to calendar year will allow for a smoother transition on the executive board. Establishing an honor board to place sanctions and punishments for violations of the chapter's bylaws and rules will enable the men of Beta Alpha to hold ourselves accountable.

On March 25, we hosted one of our biggest parent's weekends. The turnout was phenomenal and a great time to show appreciation for the faculty members of Indiana University who have tremendously influenced us. The Matt Morris Faculty Appreciation Award will now be an annual award and given to three faculty members for their dedication in impacting the lives of the men of Delta Tau Delta.

BETA BETA
DePauw University

The men of Beta Beta Chapter are proud of ending a great year. The presidential term of Patrick Dumas ended and is to be followed by Mark Houston. Helping Mark along the way are vice presidents David Balli and Abe Winkle.

We recruited 16 men who are all proud to be a part of this Fraternity. Academically our house has better than a 3.0 grade point average and considering DePauw was rated with a 90 out of 99 academic rating by The Princeton Review we are proud of our accomplishment. Twice a year Delt hosts an academic dinner where the members invite their professors.

Delt takes place in multiple philanthropies including sponsoring teams for Special Olympics and participating in Relay for Life. The most amazing fact about our chapter is next year every single member is living in the house.

BETA GAMMA
University of Wisconsin

Madison's spring has brought many unexpected but well-deserved surprises to Beta Gamma. The chapter was named the Northern Division's Most Improved Chapter in February at the division leadership conference in St. Louis. The chapter's increased membership, strong grade point average and newly founded financial stability got the chapter recognized for its hard work ethic.

Our recruitment efforts continued to pay off as Beta Gamma initiated 17 men this academic year, bringing the total chapter membership to 33. We were also recognized at the Northern Division conference for a “100% improvement in recruitment.”

Once again, our chapter made the final show for Humorology, a campus fundraiser for Camp Heartland and the Chris Farley Foundation where Greek houses pair up to write and perform spoof musicals. In addition to winning “Funniest Show” and a host of other awards, member Kyle Fay won the award for Best Actor.

Recently, member Brian Nagle was featured on the Martha Stewart show after making a delicious meatball dinner for the chapter and writing to the show's producers. The producers were so intrigued by the thought of a fraternity chef, they asked Nagle to send pictures and participate for a live phone interview with Martha.

BETA DELTA
University of Georgia

It's been a great year to be a Delt at the University of Georgia . This past December, our inaugural Delt Winter Wonderland philanthropy debuted and was a huge success. More than 500 presents were donated to homeless and abused children in the Athens area, as well as several hundred dollars in donations to the American Red Cross.

We are a growing chapter and are proud to announce the initiation of more than 39 men in this last year alone. This coming fall, Beta Delta will break 100 for the first time in four years, making it one of largest chapters at the university. Morale is at an all time high, especially after being awarded the Hugh Shield's award at the Southern Division Leadership Conference in February.

BETA EPSILON
Emory University

At Emory University , the Beta Epsilon Chapter is strengthening and growing into one of the premier chapters on campus. Beta Upsilon was a finalist for eight of the possible 15 awards presented to fraternities at Emory's annual Greek awards, including outstanding chapter president and fraternal spirit. We won two awards: one for financial management and one for outstanding programs. We initiated 12 duly-qualified men this year, and hope to double that number this upcoming year.

The brothers at Emory University are living what Delta Tau Delta is all about: Truth, Courage, Faith and Power.

BETA ZETA
Butler University

The men of Beta Zeta continue to stay involved in other organizations and have been recognized as leaders on campus. We were honored as a five-star chapter, the chapter with outstanding scholarship, outstanding campus involvement and outstanding philanthropy and community service at Butler University 's Greek Excellence Awards. Brother Andy Seibert, a sophomore, is the student body president, brother Scott Vouri, a junior, is the Interfraternity Council president and brother Dan Kingsley, a junior, will be the senior class president. We also had six of the top 10 male students on Butler 's campus, with brother Clif Rateike, a senior, honored as the top male student.

We recruited 23 men during the spring and they were the first men ever to be initiated at Central Office's courtyard. We raised more than $16,000 for Riley Hospital for Children with TRIKE and had an opportunity at the event's faculty dinner to meet a family that benefited from the money we have raised for this cause.

BETA ETA
University of Minnesota

The Beta Eta Chapter prides itself in its leadership. The spring semester we continued to demonstrate outstanding leadership on campus.

This past semester, we had members with leadership roles in the Interfraternity Council, Orientation Programs and several academic institutions. Former two-term President Alexander Vu is the IFC president. Seth Normington, treasurer, is the IFC director of recruitment and an Orientation Leader. Craig Tschautscher, director of academic affairs, is a teaching assistant for a general college class and finally, current President Corey Coonen is a teaching assistant for the Greek Health Advocate class and is also serving as an Orientation Leader this summer.

Besides leading on campus, we led in the Greek community with more than 350 hours of community service. Finally, the Beta Eta Alumni Association and undergraduates celebrated Founder's Day on April 21 with the largest attendance in at least five years.

BETA THETA
University of the South

The beginning of the semester held great promise: we had held the top grade point average on campus among fraternities for three consecutive semesters, including one semester during which we had the top GPA of the whole Greek system – fraternities and sororities. One of our brothers, senior Prashant Shukla served as Interfraternity Council Convener this past year, providing us with an invaluable link both to the administration and to other chapters on campus.

After a successful formal rush process, Shake Day brought 10 pledges, on par with the average pledge class size on campus and pushing the chapter size to more than 20 men. The pledge class was strong and following initiation several became officers.

We also participated in or organized three major community service events during March. We drove to Tullahoma , Tenn. , and helped with the Special Olympics, participated in the inaugural Kickball for Cancer event organized by the Greek community and picked up trash along local highways.

Feel free to contact either President William Weber or Vice President Will Brown for further information about the chapter.

BETA LAMBDA
Lehigh University

This year has been a terrific growing period for Beta Lambda. We grew in population, with 22 new members this year marking one of the largest recruitment periods we have experienced since our re-colonization.

Beta Lambda is thankful for our unprecedented amount of alumni involvement which helped us accomplish so much. We have also grown to be the leaders on campus. Beta Lambda won the coveted Quay Cup as the most outstanding fraternity on campus. Ian Douglass was also named Greek Man of the Year.

Our Chapter ranked second in intramurals, while maintaining the fourth-highest grade point average. With the direction Chapter Advisor Anthony Albanese, Beta Lambda anticipates only the best for our future.

BETA MU
Tufts University

The re-colonization of Tufts University is scheduled for fall 2008. Alumni are needed to establish an Alumni Advisory team and as officer mentors. For more information, contact director of expansion Nick Goldsberry.

BETA NU
Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Beta Nu had a great year. We revamped our pledge program and recruited 14 men, one of the highest numbers on campus. Furthermore, we've lowered out attrition rate by more than 50 percent.

We won Greek Week and fielded intramural teams in nearly every sport offered at MIT. Finally, within the shelter, we've strived to improve academics by creating a study room, with desks, computers and a quiet area for class work and studying.

BETA XI
Tulane University

The Tulane Delts are honored to greet you all after being displaced for a semester due to Hurricane Katrina. The chapter has not only survived the stressful times but been strengthened with the initiation of our largest pledge class in three years.

Since our return, Beta Xi have become more involved in the community by starting a new Adopt-A-School program in a hurricane-ravaged area, establishing an educational fund to purchase books for needy children and engaging in a variety of rebuilding efforts. Through continuous support, we have helped our chef, Lynn Honore, get back on her feet and are in the process of renovating her home.

The chapter has received Tulane's distinguished awards for “Best Fraternity Philanthropy,” “Best Fraternity Member Education,” and “Best Fraternity New Member Education.” Additionally, our chapter president, Andy Kraut, was recently elected president of Tulane's Interfraternity Council.

Beta Xi would like to extend its sincerest gratitude for the continued support Delta Tau Delta has shown. Brotherhood has truly sustained us.

BETA OMICRON
Cornell University

Our chapter continues to grow stronger with each passing semester. In early April, we initiated our largest pledge class in recent memory, gaining 10 strong brothers. Building on this success and led by rush chair Randy Lariar, a sophomore, we have taken steps to secure a strong pledge class for the fall. Events such as weekend BBQs, football and basketball have led us to several potential new members for next semester.

Most recently, our chapter saw a significant increase in philanthropy. Led mostly by our new members, we entered a Relay for Life team and raised nearly $1,000 to fight cancer. Of greater significance, our chapter, in combination with the women of Kappa Delta, hosted a bowling tournament to raise money for the Children's Tumor Foundation, an organization researching a cure for neurofibromatosis (NF). We netted nearly $5,000 for the foundation.

Homecoming weekend is October 13-15 and alumni are invited to return to the shelter for a great weekend.

BETA PI
Northwestern University

Recruitment in the winter went outstanding and 29 pledges became members of Delta Tau Delta on April 2. We are also very proud of former Beta Pi Vice President James Hollaran who was voted as Interfraternity Council president. Now Mr. Hollaran can share the same great leadership he used at the Beta Pi Chapter with the rest of the university.

BETA RHO
Stanford University

The Beta Rho Chapter did not submit a chapter report for the spring semester. Please e-mail chapter president David Long or call him at (650) 380-2299 for more information about this chapter.

BETA TAU
University of Nebraska

Beta Tau had an outstanding spring semester!

We implemented innovative programs that will act as stepping stones towards continuing our tradition of excellence. Our great philanthropic tradition has continued with two successful events this semester: Fish Fry benefiting our Adopt-A-School, Clinton Elementary and our annual M*A*S*H Philanthropy benefiting the American Armed Forces. In-all we've raised more than $5,500 and contributed more than 400 hours of community service this semester!  In addition, we've continued our commitment to our outstanding alumni and look forward to a great turnout for the inaugural Beta Tau Alumni Banquet in the spring of 2007.

In closing, Beta Tau is full of potential as we head into summer recruitment, and we look forward to continue being “Committed to Lives of Excellence.”

BETA UPSILON
University of Illinois

We are proud to report a 3.26 GPA, placing us in the top five chapters academically on campus. This met last year's goal of significantly improving our academic standing.

Our philanthropy event, Deltona Beach, raised $3,500 for the United Services Organization. This charity holds special meaning for members of Beta Upsilon because Brother Dan Tobon, a senior, currently serves the United States in Iraq. In other philanthropic efforts, we plan to add a service chairman position next year to increase our involvement and impact in the community.

The chapter also achieved honors at the Northern Division Leadership Conference where it received the Consultant Hospitality Award. Our intramural football team was All-Campus runner-up and won the All-Greek championship.

BETA PHI
The Ohio State University

Beta Phi was chartered May 13. It took us only one-and-a-half years to receive its charter.

Through aggressive recruiting of quality men, we able to bring in men able to help Beta Phi become the chapter it is and also raise its cumulative grade point average to a current 3.24. Next year also looks to be a promising year as we move back into the shelter at 67 East 15th St. in the fall. It will no doubt allow Beta Phi to grow stronger.

In conjunction with Delta Gamma sorority we held a speaker's forum featuring Erica Upshaw, a Delta Gamma alumni of OSU. She spoke at the union about the death of her brother Joseph Upshaw, a Beta Phi Delt, and helped raise awareness to audience of more than 1,200 Greek members of OSU about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

Our members have also taken leadership outside the chapter. Christopher Blunk became part of the expansion committee to help set up a plan to bring five new fraternities to campus within the next six years. On the Interfraternity Council Tim Hensley and Andrew Kumar were selected for communications liaison and director of philanthropy, respectively. Kyle Huff is a member of the Greek Week steering committee.

BETA PSI
Wabash College

Beta Psi Chapter recognizes seniors Kevin Shaw, Andrew Vanlandingham, Christopher Woodside, Douglas Berry, Jean Kongpinda, Kyle Harry and Aaron Hollowell for their exemplary performance in the classroom and beyond. These seven brothers rose above conventional expectations and asserted themselves to be dynamic members of their school, their chapter and their community.

Shaw, Vanlandingham, Woodside and Berry graduated this spring Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Kongpinda graduated early last spring to continue studies at Columbia University (NY) in a designed program with Wabash College and Columbia University for students interested in a career in engineering. Harry and Hollowell graduated Magna Cum Laude. These men, post-graduation, will be furthering their educational endeavors focusing their talents in the medical, law and business fields.

Chapter Beta Psi performed several community service projects including a lock-in at the Boys and Girls Club. We also coached six soccer and basketball teams at the Boys and Girls Club during this semester.

BETA OMEGA
University of California

This past semester has been productive for the Beta Omega chapter. We continued on the path toward revitalizing the size and strength of our house and are proud to welcome three new members to the Fraternity.

Nikhil Bhagat, our vice president, currently serves as the vice president of risk management chair for the interfraternity Council. For the third consecutive year, we participated in a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life. We are also are very proud of a recent event that gained recognition in the Contra Costa Times . The men of our chapter traveled to Pleasant Hill's Chateau III, an assisted-living and memory-care community center, to provide an evening's worth of entertainment that included, singing, dance accompaniment for the wonderful women who live there, and most importantly, fun.
