Alpha Chapters
ALPHA
Allegheny College
Alpha is proud to mark this past semester as one of our finest. At the Eastern Divisions Conference in February, we won our 12 th Hugh Shields Award. Our kitchen has now been running for a full school year and it has been a fine addition to the house as well as the brotherhood. We also recently welcomed 11 brothers from our spring pledge class.
Alpha has continued to excel this semester on Allegheny's campus and beyond. At the Greek Awards, we won the Outstanding Philanthropy Program Award. The philanthropy committee, under the guidance of Philanthropy Chair Evan Grosjean, has flourished this semester, with an added emphasis on Adopt-A-School and inter-Greek events. Alpha has established itself as an example of excellence in leadership. We currently have 11 members who sit in non-chapter executive positions, five of whom are presidents of their respective organizations. Josh Macel, a rising senior and a former president of Alpha Chapter, is currently the president of the Interfraternity Council.
We have been recognized beyond Allegheny as well; at the Eastern Division Conference, we also won awards for our website (www.adelts.org), our Adopt-A-School program, our grades, and for outstanding chapter hospitality. Alumni involvement remains strong; we had over 20 alumni attend our annual gold outing at the end of April.
BETA
Ohio University
The Beta Chapter moved in the right direction during the winter spring quarters especially with academics. Last spring we ranked 11 th amongst fraternities but move to fourth after the winter quarter with a grade point average above the all-fraternity and all-men's averages.
Additionally, we have made several improvements to the shelter. We installed new carpet in the hallways, painted the ceilings and repaired most of the damage to the walls. One of the bathrooms was overhauled, including a new sink and painted walls. Everyone has been pleased with the aesthetic improvements and we are happy that our hard work has paid off.
We recruited five men last quarter, down some from what we would like. However we accepted six pledges for the spring quarter, a good number for a spring class and have plans to achieve our recruitment goal of approximately 25-30 men next fall.
GAMMA
Washington & Jefferson College
This was a great year for Gamma Chapter. This winter we had a successful rush and gave out 13 bids, all being accepted. This pledge class has many benefits both as individuals and as a group. Three of the new members participate in varsity athletics. Evan Chappel and Jeff Farrell both play for the soccer team, which won their conference and received a bid to the NCAA D-III tournament. Also, Ryan Bashour plays for the golf team and has been able to showcase his talents on many challenging courses this year.
Finally, the new members are extremely devoted to their academics. Collectively, they have a grade point average that exceeds the all-male average on campus. The chapter is very pleased with the vast talents and strong work ethics of the new members and is looking forward to the following year.
DELTA
University of Michigan
The re-colonization of Delta starts in October 2006. Alumni are needed for an Alumni Advisory team and as officer mentors. For more information, contact Garrett Hall at ghall@visteon.com
EPSILON
Albion College
June 1, 2006 marked Epsilon Chapter's 130 th year of continuous recognition at Albion College and it continues to thrive. We will have a special celebration ceremony during Homecoming this fall after the football game. We invite all alumni to stop by the shelter.
Our grade point average continues the upward trend as our member GPA rose from 3.18 to 3.29 after the Fall 2005 semester. This puts us above the all-men's, all-fraternity and all-campus averages but ranks us third among all fraternities on campus.
Our third annual alumni golf outing was a big success. We extend a special thanks to junior Matt Geyer for heading up the event and to Tim Hartson (1983) for once again making his course at Lake Doster Country Club in Plainwell, Mich., available to the chapter. Thanks to all the alumni who came out enjoyed a great day of golfing. All proceeds from the golf outing were donated to the Albion Interfaith Ministries.
ZETA
Case Western Reserve University
Zeta chapter had a productive year which culminated with receiving the Hugh Shields Award for Chapter Excellence. Zeta also earned the Pytte Cup, Case's award for the top fraternity on campus by maintaining strong campus leadership, emphasizing academics and commitment to community service.
One Delt at Case is the president of a major university organization and two more are vice presidents. Three men serve as captains of varsity sports teams. Zeta notched the second best grade point average on campus (3.384). Eleven seniors have been accepted to graduate or professional degree programs and 10 members earned perfect grades this past semester. In its various philanthropic activities, Zeta volunteered at the Great Lakes Science Center , donated 1,150 cans to the Cleveland Food Bank and raised $1,416.50 for Providence House, a local shelter for abused children.
If you are a Zeta alumni or a Delt currently living in the Cleveland area, please complete our alumni survey.
THETA FOUNDING
Bethany College
Theta Founding has established itself as the fraternity “on the rise” at Bethany College . We raised our grade point average by 0.7 points. Theta has also been the backbone of the college's Big Bother/Big Sister program with Christmas, Valentines Day and Easter parties for local children.
The feeling of brotherhood is very strong amount the chapter. Theta recently took a camping trip to bond and plan for next year. This fall Theta Founding was crowned Greek Week champions and coming into next year our goal is to make major improvements to the shelter. Painting, furniture and bathrooms are on the agenda.
Theta Founding Chapter at Bethany College was extremely influential this 2005-2006 school year. The treasurer of the interfraternity council of Greek Life is newly initiated brother, Ryan Tempalski. President Mark Yocco and vice president Devin DuCoeur have been very active in helping the chapter make major strides of improvement. Treasurer Bill Seelhorst has helped Theta Founding come out of major debt and accumulate excess funds.
KAPPA
Hillsdale College
The re-colonization of Kappa is scheduled for the fall 2007. For more information or to assist with the re-colonization plans, please contact Sandy MacMechan at Hotpenguin1@aol.com .
MU
Ohio Wesleyan University
The Mu Chapter had an extremely successful spring semester. The new leadership worked together to create a strong brotherhood and a positive attitude.
In the classroom, the brothers worked extremely hard to raise their grades and once again become a forerunner academically. Athletically we have several student-athletes and as a shelter we had an intramural dodgeball team that finished undefeated and won the championship.
We pride ourselves in our diversity and involvement around campus. We have several members on the rugby team, who are music majors, WCSA representatives and an IFC president just to name a few.
The shelter has been significantly improved with brothers renovating their rooms and our new pool table. Our chef Abdul has done a fantastic job and we are looking forward to having him for the next semester. Our wonderful alumni support system helped guide us and we can not thank them enough.
OMICRON
University of Iowa
The re-colonization of Iowa is scheduled for spring 2008. Alumni are needed for an Alumni Advisory team and as officer mentors. For more information, contact Director of Expansion Nick Goldsberry.
RHO
Stevens Institute of Technology
Rho Chapter overcame one of the toughest transitional periods the brotherhood has endured in years. Yet, despite this difficulty, the men have showed tremendous poise and persistence staying committed to “Lives of Excellence.” This past year the president, the treasurer and secretary of the Interfratenrity Council were Delts. We were also represented in student government with one brother serving as a two-year incumbent as class senator.
We also ran a blood drive, an adopt-a-highway event, volunteered at the Hoboken soup kitchen and began a new partnership with the American Heart Association by assisting in their efforts to raise money for heart disease research. Rho Chapter also gave financial support to the philanthropic endeavors of two sororities.
TAU
Pennsylvania State University
The Tau Chapter had a stellar year. We built upon last year with strong recruitment in the fall with another good class this spring. In homage to Will Ferrell the PSU Delts guided a Christmas-themed Buddy-the-Elf float down College Avenue for the homecoming parade. During October, we hosted a philanthropy to “smash out domestic violence” and culminated the spring with four men participating in the Pennsylvania State Dance Marathon, benefiting the Four Diamonds Fund, conquering pediatric cancer at the Hershey Medical Center.
When the weather broke in Happy Valley the men of Tau chapter co-hosted a volleyball tournament, Zeta Spikes, on their front lawn. The year ended with the Delts working hard on brotherhood, grade point averages and always striving for a better future.
CHI
Kenyon College
Chi Chapter started this semester by welcoming more than 100 alumni to campus and to our lodge for the 125th Anniversary of the founding of Chi on January 28. This event also served as the culmination of our Rush Week activities, substituting for our traditional steak dinner.
As a result, Chi added 11 new men and claimed their time and talents for our betterment. Chi Chapter continued its improvement of the lodge by reconditioning and servicing the septic tank system, which needed repair after the winter. The 2006 pledge-class project, the construction of a bar at the lodge, is a beautiful addition.
We say farewell to many actives next semester as they go abroad to exotic locales such as Madrid , Copenhagen , Denmark and Sydney . We also send out a fond farewell to our graduating seniors, wish them luck in their postgraduate work and hope they return soon as involved alumni. Graduating seniors were: Jake Appleman (Spanish), Edwin Barnes (anthropology), Jack Cerchiara (biology), David Ginzer (economics), Paul Gunther (American studies), Trevor Schwartz (philosophy) and Kevin Ward (political science.)
OMEGA
University of Pennsylvania
The newly reinstalled Omega Chapter is striving to become an outstanding organization. We initiated nine members this spring. We also successfully organized an alumni luncheon during Penn's Spring Fling weekend.
A Delt team won the intramural basketball championship and several members coached local youth in the Penn-West Philly Basketball League. Omega has also taken strong leadership roles on campus. Simeon McMillan and David Tucker are mentors in the Wharton Business School 's Undergraduate Leadership Program.
Omega made a strong showing at the Eastern Division Leadership Conference, receiving four recruitment awards and two for academics, including the Arch Chapter Scholarship Achievement Award for the top grade point average in the division. Most importantly, we had the honor of performing our first Ritual for a division conference
