Dr. Kenneth Lawrence Clinton, Jr.
President
Dr. Kenneth Lawrence Clinton, Jr., better known as “Rock,” is the president of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He became the 48th man to hold that position when he was elected at the 2006 Indianapolis Karnea.
Dr. Clinton’s alumni service to the Fraternity spans nearly 40 years, starting as the resident advisor for the Epsilon Gamma Chapter at Washington State while pursuing his doctorate degree in sociology from 1969-1972. He has served the Fraternity continually since then, including 25 years as the chapter advisor for his home chapter, Epsilon Eta at Texas A&M-Commerce, formerly East Texas State.
His alumni service also includes eight years as a Western Division vice president, five years (1990-1995) as president of the Western Division, two terms (1996-1998, 2000-2002) as the Fraternity’s director of academic affairs, second vice president (2002-2004), and vice president (2004-2006).
In 1988, Dr. Clinton was cited into membership in the Distinguished Service Chapter, the highest service honored bestowed by the Fraternity.
Dr. Clinton is a professor of sociology and director of the international studies program at Texas A&M University-Commerce. He formerly served as director of the school’s honors program. Dr. Clinton received his B. S. and M. S. from East Texas State University and his Ph.D. in sociology in 1972 from Washington State University. Dr. Clinton has more than 60 publications/reports or professional presentations or workshops to his professional credit. He has received outstanding teaching awards from the University and the school’s student senate.
A resident of Commerce, Texas, since 1972, he has served as vice president and president of the United Way Board in Commerce. He also is a former president of the Texas A&M University-Commerce Alumni Association. He is listed in Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges.
In his volunteer role as a Delt and Greek leader, Dr. Clinton has given more than 200 presentations regarding Greek or student topics either on college campuses or at Delt conferences.
His wife, Dr. Linda Clinton, also a graduate of East Texas State where she became a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, is director of the counseling center at Texas A&M-Commerce. Their son, Kenneth, served as president of the Epsilon Delta Chapter of Delta Tau Delta for three terms at Texas Tech University and was a member of the Fraternity’s Undergraduate Council.
As an undergraduate at East Texas State, Dr. Clinton was involved in a number of activities. Those included: four years in the student senate, vice president of the junior class, justice of the student supreme court, vice president and president of the sociology club, and president of the anthropology club. He was the recipient of the school’s outstanding senator award in 1965.
As a member of Epsilon Eta Chapter, he served as secretary, rush chair, pledge educator, scholarship chair, and IFC representative. He received the outstanding member of the chapter award his senior year.
