    Pilot program frequently asked questions

Q: How will the program work?

A: Each pilot chapter is assigned a member of the Leadership Development staff. The chapter works with the staff member to complete the elements of the pilot program. Since many schools run on different schedules (semester/quarters), have different breaks, etc., there is no generic template of how the program will work with each chapter. Once chapters are selected and chapter representatives are selected, the Leadership Development staff works throughout the year with the pilot chapters to execute the program. The staff member will visit each chapter twice per academic year to help facilitate the curriculum and provide program updates. The staff member also keeps in touch with the designated chapter representatives on a regular basis.

Q: Why should my chapter do this?

A: The member education program is a customizable experience to help your members get more out of Delta Tau Delta. This program will not only help your brothers get through the college experience, but give them the tools they need to be successful in the "real world." Together with your brothers, you will learn things not being taught in the classroom. This complement to your college education will prepare you to live, work, and thrive above your peers after graduation.

Q: What are the programming areas that will be covered in the curriculum?

A: The curriculum focuses on both chapter and individual elements. Chapter elements include planning retreats, ritual education, officer transition, etc. Individual curriculum focuses on personal finance, personal leadership, time management, men's health, etiquette, etc. Some curriculum like alumni networking and goal setting covers both the chapter and individual elements.

Q: What are the responsibilities of the chapter during the pilot program?

A: Each pilot chapter is given curriculum and member education tasks to implement with their brothers. Chapters are also tasked to create member education experiences on their own and report back to the Leadership Development staff. There is a competition amongst the pilot chapters to earn incentives for how each chapter implements member education curriculum, participates in fraternity programs and successuflly executes the regular day to day responsibilities as a chapter of Delta Tau Delta.

Q: What will be the time constraint on the individual member for the pilot program?

A: The depth of the program is up to the individual and the chapter - "You get out what you put in." Chapters earn points toward incentives for overall participation as a group and as individual members. There are different programs and curriculum to meet the many wants and needs of your brothers, but the time an individual puts toward the program will be up to him. A quantitative estimate would be about 5-8 hours per month.

Q: Will there need to be another officer created to head this program?

A: This is another element that varies by chapter. Remember this is a pilot program and we are testing different curriculums, implementation styles, etc. A new officer could be created, or the responsibilities of managing the program could be assigned to a current officer. We will ask the chapter to designate two people to be in full contact with the Leadership staff.

Q: What if we already have a local member education program in place?

A: Excellent! This pilot program is designed to be customized at the local level. You can integrate the things you are already doing with the elements we provide. For this program to be successful, each chapter has to make it their own. If you are already working with some member education curriculum, you will likely be very successful with this program. Member education is a culture, brothers who care about lifelong learning and growth. If you've already started at the local level, you've taken the biggest step in accepting responsibility for your own development.
